New Site

3/27/11

As a loyal and dedicated reader of this blog, you probably remember that we went to New York this past February for a conference and to sneak around Lincoln Center during Fashion Week.  Our trip gave us a lot of time to discuss Les Deux, and we ended up agreeing upon changing the site's name to Galactic Noise.

So why the change?

Well, to begin with, we have to admit that Les Deux isn't all that creative of a name.  At the blog's inception, the moniker was quickly chosen simply as a reflection of the fact that there were two writers (also, Katie is basically fluent in French, but that's a different point).  Also, if you do a quick Google search for "les deux" about 175,000 results show up for various cafes, nightclubs, real estate businesses, etc., etc.  The name is also associated with some other fashion endeavors as well as blogs, and while none of them have a huge amount of notoriety, we have to admit that others may have had the name first.

And, why Galactic Noise?

After racking our brains for weeks trying to come up with a unique and fitting title with every possible combination of words, fashionable and otherwise (Think grunge, bohemian, sequins, and southern fit together?  Yeah not so much...), we decided to think outside of the fashion box.  It was then that we came up with the new name, and hang in there with me, because there is a valid connection.  As we understand it, galactic noise is something that comes from outer space, but we can still hear it here on Earth.  And in a way, that is what we are.  We're very far from the fashion capitals of the world, but we still have opinions on the industry, and we are making them heard.  You may argue that a Google search on "galactic noise" yields about twenty times as many results as the aforementioned one for "les deux," but these are all science-y, and as far as we are aware, there are no blogs with the title of "Galactic Noise."  So it's ours now.

Will the only change be the name?

For now, yes.  While we're constantly making efforts to improve our site's layout and cohesiveness, to be perfectly honest, we've got busy lives outside of blogging.  We have classes to attend, crappy jobs to be present at, and parties to go to, people.  So for the moment, don't worry, because there likely won't be anymore changes.

Getting to the point...

The site formally known as Les Deux at http://lesdeuxxx.blogspot.com is henceforth Galactic Noise located at http://galacticnoise.blogspot.com.  If you like Les Deux, we encourage you to come to our new site and follow us on Bloglovin' or Google Friend Connect, and if you really like us, tell your friends!

Harley Viera Newton by The Coveteur

2/17/11

Again and again and again I will tell you, I can't not post something that puts cats and fashion together.  And I know that there has been a lot of drama surrounding The Coveteur's site, but to be honest, it's my favorite of the "covet" sites (don't tell Jennine Jacob, though... Katie and I heard her absolutely go off on someone when things at her conference didn't go her way, and it was terrifying).  At any rate, The Coveteur takes tours of the lust-worthy closets of editors and fashion people, then photographs them for all of us to salivate over.  One of their newest entries is DJ Harley Viera Newton, whom owns an inordinate amount of Tom Binns accessories, and awesomely models them on her cat.  These are just the pictures including Binns pieces, which is roughly one-fourth of them.

NYC's The Place To Be

2/11/11

So we've made it to New York. So far it's been cold, dusty, confusing, and expensive, but totally great. Highlights have been meeting/seeing famous fashion bloggers like Susie Bubble, the Face Hunter, The Man Repeller, Mr. Street Peeper, etc., knowing that Tavi Gevinson was in the same building as us at the Vena Cava show, and, of course, hearing Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez speak (I even got to ask them a question, huzzaaah!). The IFB conference yesterday was awesome, in a word, and we'll be posting more pictures and info about it later, scout's honor.

Oh, Hey There

2/4/11
Oh, hey me.

So remember way back in April when I promised that you'd be seeing more personality from Les Deux in the near future? No? That's okay, nobody actually read this blog in April, so I forgive you. Anyway, I lied back then, but I'm telling you the truth now when I say that there will be more personal style from here on out. Why? Because I've finally got a camera! But before you start fretting, thinking that Les Deux will just be clogged up with outfit posts every day, let me lay down the law and make it known that I will only use my Canon Powershot for good...and by that I just mean that I'll use it sparingly.

That said, I figured I may as well celebrate my new toy with a nice little 1 a.m. outfit post. So here we go, this is how I layer like a pro:

Wearing: Boots by Wanted, pants from Gap, t-shirt from Target, navy cardigan from Gap, coat from Express, scarf from American Apparel, headband from Scarlett Begonia (a boutique in Nashville), awesome backpack from Target.

I call this look tribal soldier, because (unfortunately) my warmest coat just so happens to be almost the exact color of the pants I was wearing today. Ain't no thang; military-wear is popular right now. Plus, nothing, not even monochrome overkill, could stop me from wearing this faux-fur lined coat when it's about 25 degrees with 15 mph winds.

I'm still feeling a little uncomfortable about asking my friends to take pictures of me and then finding an awkward corner of my living room to shuffle around in while I look like I'm in a Deal Breakers promo. This is all weird/new territory for me, so please forgive obtrusive dorm furniture, grainy editing, and self-conscious 8th grader poses until I get into the swing of things. We got a deal?

I probably spent too much time on this tumblr earlier...  The only thing that would have made it better is if the quote in the first picture had referenced Prada fur.

(IN)DECOROUS TASTE

12/21/10

Select interiors from your new favorite blog, (IN)DECOROUS TASTE.  Great interior decorating, and some of the furnishings are actually for sale.  Also, she makes accessories and some sick shoes that I've mentioned before.

Fashion is a Drug, Get Wasted

So Jax and I were super honored when Miss Aimee over at Fashion is a Drug, Get Wasted asked us for a quick interview the other day. She's posted the interview on her site, so you can now read about things like Jax and I's mutual hatred for gaucho pants, our fashion icons, and why we think Les Deux is a worthy read (hopefully you'll agree).

Also, you'll get to check out Aimee's blog! It's a great blog that showcases not only fashion, but a fashion-lover's lifestyle.

Jealousy

10/2/10
JAX

Been wanting these Alexander Wang ribbed flare leggings for so long; the only thing that's kept me from splurging is the knowledge that they would inevitably look terrible on my stumpy legs.  Of course, Rumi "Fashion Roast" looks awesome in them.

Bargain....Psssssh.

Maybe it's just me (or maybe it's because I'm cheap), but I generally don't get excited about Vogue's Cheap and Chic section where the "Cheap" items are generally in the $400 range. I'm sorry, but as a college student with two jobs, I don't have $395 sitting around to spend on a cocktail ring.

$395 ring from Saks; aka, not worth it

Unlike Vogue/Elle/Harper's Cheap-o sections, the Under $100 section over at Who What Wear is generally very affordable. I always really enjoy seeing which items they choose to feature and gawking at the super inexpensive prices of items that would seem to be worth much more.

However, the most recent Under $100 section, which features neutral sandals, was definitely a rip off in a Vogue-Cheap-and-Chic sort of way. I'm sorry, but when I see a spread entitled "Under $100," I generally expect for more than one out of seven items to be at least under $90.

Not what I was expecting.

It was unsettling to see that Who What Wear has followed in Vogue's footsteps by trying to trick me into believing that they are showing me a great deal. Ugh...pet peeve for sure.

jax likes...babysitters

3/17/10
claudia was always my favorite from the babysitters club; although i can't remember the specifics of why since it was so long ago, i've obviously had great style since a young age.  because, get this, claudia is the only babysitter that i'm aware of who has her own blog dedicated to her clothing.  meet what claudia wore. according to the blog, this look from the latest issue of nylon would be right up claudia's ally.  or something. katie dislikes...what's happening to fashion gone rogue!

2/22/10
upon getting on fashion gone rogue today, i was shocked to see this message from joanna, the creator:

immediate reaction: what?!

fashion gone rogue is a big favorite of both myself and jax, and we'll be beyond sad to see it go. if you go to the website (here), there is a link to donate some money on the behalf of joanna and her blog. $2400 isn't that much money, and any dollar helps.

help save a great fashion blog! donate!

katie.
