When I read on the Cut that Gemma Ward had shot an editorial for the first time in years after being rejected by the fashion industry for gaining weight, I was thrilled. Ward has been a long time favorite model of both Katie's and mine, and we had kind of given up on her ever returning to her modeling career. Especially now that she seems to have moved up in the world, what with a title role in the new Pirates movie and all. And alas, we may be right. Because this isn't editorial as I usually think of it, like high fashion editorials, it's just an editorial to go along with an interview with Australia's Sunday Telegraph Magazine. So thanks for getting us all excited, Cut writers. She still looks insanely gorgeous, though.

Bieber Fever
Say whaaaat?
Justin Bieber, Love Magazine. Not many similarities there, considering the fact that Love is often under the gun for their affinity with model nudity (See Huffington Post's article on the issue entitled Porn or Art?). That's why it's such a shocker that, for their fifth issue, the good people over at Love chose other than the Biebs for their cover. Yeah, I'm still confused too, especially when the alternate cover is factored into the picture:
It's not as bad as it looks; technically the one on the left is a man.
I'll admit it, Bieber's picture is a damn good one. It was, after all, shot by Terry Richardson. But that's where my praise ends and the confusion sets in again. My big question is, what will the shots inside look like? If the Justin Bieber spread is anything like the ones Love usually does then you can bet that there will be a lot of happy Beliebers out there and a nasty child pornography case on Love's hands.

Leighton Meester Hearts Christopher Kane
Leighton Meester's February Seventeen cover has been released, on which she sports a Spring 2011 Versus dress that I absolutely adore. I loved Versus's latest collection to begin with, and the Gossip Girl actress is styled to springy and appropriately youthful perfection for the young women's publication.
I've always admired Leighton's sense of style because she manages to be a little daring without resorting to wearing overly revealing looks like some of her peers. Seeing her in this dress reminded me of how often she's worn clothes designed by Christopher Kane in the past couple of years (in addition to his namesake line, Kane designs for Versus as well). Granted, the orange Christopher Kane Resort 2010 number ultimately didn't prove to be one of her best looks, but you've got to give the girl credit for showing some designer loyalty. My personal favorite of the looks has to be the blue Versus dress from Fall 2010 (but I've always been a fan of that one). I'm really hoping she tries out this acidic, ladylike look next.

The Art Issue
JAX
Really though? It's not like I'm an elitist by any means, but a Kardashian on the cover of the art issue? Right after brand-freaking-new editor Stefano Tonchi was quoted talking all about how he didn't want to "engage in the cutthroat newsstand-sales game," presumably by slapping of-the-moment tabloid stars on covers to pull readers. I don't know, I haven't bought the issue, and I doubt I will. Maybe it's totally great. Just seeing Kim Kardashian's name in large font, ahead of the likes of Juergen Teller and Salvador Dali is kind of disheartening.

Apparently they were supposed to shoot a cover together. However, Kate (and more likely Naomi) refused to pose with Lady Gaga. And thus, we received three separate covers for the Pre-Fall issue.

sorry les deux; i promise i haven't totally given up on you.
so back to it, i love me some eva herzigova. this is vogue italia (obviously) for june 2010. shot by steven meisel, makeup by pat mcgrath, and she's wearing vuitton pre-fall. i'm always a sucker for a nice, clean cover, and i think it's great how it looks like eva has just fallen into a soft pile of leaves to go along with the title "fall forecast." i'm assuming this was intentional anyways.

peanut butter cookies
BY JAX
i'll admit it; i'm a little bit late for jumping on the karlie kloss bandwagon. at seventeen, she's arguably the top runway-walker in the world currently. but i've always found her a touch overrated. yes, it's nice to finally have a new american face in the industry, but it's always been tough for me to get past most of that hype to really pay attention to her modeling. that being said, i think her cover for the latest issue of teen vogue is fantastic. i love seeing models in magazines rather than actresses and singers; this is definitely a nice change of pace for teen vogue. she's wearing alexander wang's "football dress" for the cover and i think it and her look are perfection.
besides that, she's still so innocent. models often get the reputation for doing lots of drugs and partying, but karlie kloss still always travels with an adult, and was spotted reading the great gatsby backstage rather than smoking cigarettes like many of her peers. it is also reported in the magazine that she bakes cookies for designers, such as when she made a peanut butter version for alexander wang when she had a fitting with him. adorable, right?
