The whole space print trend has probably already come and gone, but I still think that it's beautiful, so I really don't care.  I can't remember whether I've mentioned how much I love Christopher Kane's resort 2011 collection, but surely I have?  Anyway, here I go again, but this time I have some reasonable alternatives.  Meet Acne's Bay Print and Zorah tees.  Yes, they're not nearly as intense, but for less than a tenth of the price, can you really complain?

a lot of celine's show reminded me of overpriced a.p.c., you know, very minimalist and clean with broad silhouettes.  don't get me wrong, i thought the collection was great, but it's pretty much what i've come to expect from phoebe philo at this point.  the second and third looks shown here are probably my favorites, and i just really liked how the cuff jewelry looked in the first.  actually, the accessories were probably the best thing about this collection, which is saying a lot.  thank you ms. philo, for continuing to establish celine as a major french fashion house to be reckoned with.

i'm kind of torn on balenciaga's resort collection, but i'm leaning towards dislike.  it was like an awful re-imaging of the fall 2010 show, which i loved.  to open, nicholas ghesquiere showed some very masculine, boxy silhouettes and ugly pantsuits.  from there i just couldn't focus on anything else.  i mean, i really enjoyed the focus on pastels, the makeup, the shoes, and there were some great looks (which i will get to in a second), but opening with so many polarizing looks just wasn't a good idea.  he continued the boxiness throughout the collection, dispersed in between the decent looks, and it just killed the entire thing for me.  i love you nicholas, but your take on 1960s airline attire or whatever the hell just wasn't for me.  and now, onto the more likable looks...

One and Only

matthew williamson's resort collection was very strong, as expected.  summer prints and gauzy shapes are where he really shines, even if they don't always fit my tastes.  this dress was a real standout for me though, like tribal meets gothic.  just thought i'd share as i attempt to catch up on everything fashion.

Nobody Knows

i finally have money from working a million jobs this summer and i want new clothes.  but all the stores i have looked at have nothing to offer.  so after checking my usual shopping sites, i'm back to style.com, and i landed on cacharel because it was featured on the home page.  these are the clothes that i want to be buying right now.  sophisticated yet youthful.  too bad i haven't quite made that kind of money.

She's Just Being Miley

when i think max azria, generally all that comes to mind are his miley cyrus/walmart line and trashy bcbg clothes.  however, i was pleasantly surprised upon viewing his namesake resort 2011 collection.  i came across the first look that i posted on style.com's "look of the day" section as one of the choices to vote on.  this sparked my interest, so i had to check out the whole thing.  admittedly i'm drawn to the more neutral looks, although there were some other pops of color.  i just thought the whole collection fit together really well, and the clothes were very casual-chic and wearable, which is basically the point of resort collections.  i loved the safari theme and draped, flow-y pieces that utilized this technique without over doing it.  there were a few aspects of it that i didn't like as much, like the heinous boots that i will not post for the sake of your eyes, but overall i thought that this was a real step up for max azria, and i'm glad that i took the time to go through the slides.

Look of the Moment

to quote katie's description of the burberry resort 2011 collection, "they took two of my least favorite fashion things, ruching and crochet, and made me like them."  while i have an incredible amount of respect for say, the theatrical and intricate beauty of the late alexander mcqueen's dresses, oftentimes the looks that i am most drawn to are those that i desire to wear in my daily life.  and so, it is due to this fact, and in honor of my dear friend crochet-sherry from bonnaroo, that i introduce my long overdue new look of the moment.

with each collection he releases, christopher bailey impresses me more and more.  his ability to transform the once stuffy british house into a major fashion player once again within the past few years has been nothing short of astounding.  this look in particular just further solidifies burberry's place as a countryside beauty brand with a kick of rock and roll.  i love the unabashed use of brown and black together, and the shoes alone just make me die.  i can't tell for sure whether they're sandals with black socks underneath, or actual booties.  i was over wide belts until i saw this one which is just so well constructed.  i think i disliked them before only because of all the shitty pleather target ones i've been stuck seeing middle aged "hip" women wear for the past three years or however the fuck long.  and you know that the intricacy of the crochet detailing would be absolutely stunning in real life.  thanks, christopher bailey, for giving me an outfit to daydream about wearing while sitting outside at a restaurant in manhattan drinking a bloody mary on a sunday morning, slightly hungover and looking perfectly disheveled.
