On The Fringe

What with the Fall collections almost done showing, it's time to start focusing on the trends they've produced. While there was a big emphasis this season on modern textures (like plastic) and 60's shape, there was the Native American influence that popped up from show to show as well. While I can delve into 60's style a little here and there, plastic is not my thing. I like sensual fabrics that move with the body. So you can bet I've been much more inspired by the Native trends for fall. Something I'd never delved into in that realm is fringe. It's fun and kitsch, but still, for the most part, wearable. It's a little more summery than it is cold-weather, so hopefully I'll be able to break out some mean fringe come May or June.

Sunny Winter

Last weekend here in Tennessee the temperatures were in the high 60s. The sun was shining,  birds were chirping, and everyone was outside. It was the perfect glimpse of what springtime is like in the small city where I attend college. The high is only 50 today, but the sun is shining and I think I can hear a bird somewhere outside, so that's enough for me to start preparing a dream wardrobe for a traditional southern late winter. 

What, our northern/western/foreign readers may ask, is a southern late winter? Well, it basically entails one or two sunny days with temperatures in the 70s followed by 30 degree, dismal snowy/rainy weather. You never really know what to expect from a southern late winter, so your wardrobe must be able to accommodate the warmest of warms and the coldest of colds all at once.

The collection up top is a perfect blend of winter warmths and colors along with some lighter summery pieces. While some of the pieces are a tish bit unrealistic (like the $2,000 Alexander McQueen clutch that I would most certainly be using as a camera case), it's always fun to plan for the things I will one day buy with my Vogue/J. Crew stylist/casting director salary.

Grey to the Max.

Obviously, maxi dresses have re-paved their way into the closets of any good fashion follower these days. They're good for summer, a great staple layering piece for the colder months that are so slowly approaching, and, best of all, readily available. Unlike some trendy items, maxi dresses can usually be found at a fair price and are carried by most major fashion retailers. I'm currently on the hunt for one, and am hoping to snag one of the Gap's navy and grey striped racer back maxis that are in the sale section, but sometimes it's just nice to dream about a long, flowy dress that is far too expensive to ever be your own. My ideal maxi dress is some shade of grey; I think it's such a good color for a maxi dress because it keeps you from looking too formal or beachy. If I could have all the money in the world, you'd better bet that right after I picked up my Houlihans, these five gems would be hanging in my closet.

Luckily I'm not so unfortunate to discount owning any of these items. Diorshow mascara is easily accessible and is, in fact, the only mascara I use. And those Dolce Vita for Target boots should be shipped to be within the next 1 to 3 weeks. Hopefully they won't look cheap since they're from such a major chain. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
