New Site

As a loyal and dedicated reader of this blog, you probably remember that we went to New York this past February for a conference and to sneak around Lincoln Center during Fashion Week. Our trip gave us a lot of time to discuss Les Deux, and we ended up agreeing upon changing the site's name to Galactic Noise.

So why the change?

Well, to begin with, we have to admit that Les Deux isn't all that creative of a name. At the blog's inception, the moniker was quickly chosen simply as a reflection of the fact that there were two writers (also, Katie is basically fluent in French, but that's a different point). Also, if you do a quick Google search for "les deux" about 175,000 results show up for various cafes, nightclubs, real estate businesses, etc., etc. The name is also associated with some other fashion endeavors as well as blogs, and while none of them have a huge amount of notoriety, we have to admit that others may have had the name first.

And, why Galactic Noise?

After racking our brains for weeks trying to come up with a unique and fitting title with every possible combination of words, fashionable and otherwise (Think grunge, bohemian, sequins, and southern fit together? Yeah not so much...), we decided to think outside of the fashion box. It was then that we came up with the new name, and hang in there with me, because there is a valid connection. As we understand it, galactic noise is something that comes from outer space, but we can still hear it here on Earth. And in a way, that is what we are. We're very far from the fashion capitals of the world, but we still have opinions on the industry, and we are making them heard. You may argue that a Google search on "galactic noise" yields about twenty times as many results as the aforementioned one for "les deux," but these are all science-y, and as far as we are aware, there are no blogs with the title of "Galactic Noise." So it's ours now.

Will the only change be the name?

For now, yes. While we're constantly making efforts to improve our site's layout and cohesiveness, to be perfectly honest, we've got busy lives outside of blogging. We have classes to attend, crappy jobs to be present at, and parties to go to, people. So for the moment, don't worry, because there likely won't be anymore changes.

Above is Target's $34.99 Mossimo bag; Below is Proenza Schouler's $1,995 PS1

If you've been to Target lately, you may have noticed a nice buttery looking faux-leather satchel placed near the accessories and clothing. Looked familiar, didn't it? Maybe you'd seen it before, right? Well yeah, you probably have. The bag is a strikingly similar replica of Proenza Schouler's PS1 satchel, the schoolboy bag that's had everyone talking. While the brand has worked with Target on a GO International collection before, this was definitely not a collaboration piece, and Jack and Lazaro are not happy about Target's producing it.

After reading The Cut's article about the knock-off bag, I starting thinking two things:

1. I want that Target bag.

2. Is it ethical of me, as a knowledgable consumer, to buy it?

As someone who doesn't have the lifestyle that allows me to buy a $2,000 purse (let alone one that's $100) every time a new trendy it bag comes out, I usually feel grateful when lower-priced brands like Target and Forever 21 release similar models. I buy them knowing well that they're poorly made and not as good as the real thing, but also knowing that they'll satisfy my urge for a product that will always be out of my reach. Plus, I don't expect to trick anyone in to thinking that my knock-off Target bag is really the super expensive designer original; anyone who knows the difference would recognize that it's not the same bag and anyone who would think the bag is designer-made probably has no clue who Proenza Schouler is anyway. Still, I feel a pang of guilt when considering the purchase of a knock-off item. On one hand, it's not like the products I buy have fake labels plastered all over them (think fake Louis Vuitton), but on the other, they do look similar enough to the original product that I can make the connection.

My conclusion is that I'll probably continue to buy designer look-a-like clothes until I can afford the real thing. Until brands like Proenza Schouler start losing money, and more importantly, customers to lower priced brands like Target, I can't feel all that bad for toting around a Mossimo1.

Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2011 RTW

So clearly neither Jax nor I really pushed through reviewing all four weeks of fall fashion this year (do we ever), because I'm just now discovering Dolce & Gabbana's celestial 80's (or 50's rockabilly, according to Vogue) collection, and I'm overwhelmingly obsessed. Dolce & Gabbana fused their original classic shapes and techniques with insanely fun textures, prints, and colors, leading to a collection that is completely out of this world.

Sparkles, stars, brogues, and tiger print? Say no more, I'm hooked.

While basically everything about the collection was fantastic, I have to admit I'm not a big fan of 80's dressing. And when I say not a big fan, I mean I'll oftentimes wish that the 80's as a decade never happened. In fact, this collection is the only good thing I've ever seen come out of the whole tacky era. The music note printed pieces and over the top shoulder-padded blazers were definitely at the lower end of the spectrum of goodness, and could have potentially turned me off of the collection all together if it weren't for the amazing success of the rest of the clothes. Clearly my pink sparkly mascara and Happy Birthday nail polish are not going to be enough come fall. Considering my constantly growing affection for the collection, I don't think they're going to be enough come spring anymore either.

The Olsens at Le Comte Ory

Why are the Olsens so infinitely cool? Here they are at a gala hosted by the Metropolitan Opera and Yves Saint Laurent for the premiere of Rossini's Le Comte Ory. Whomever is on the left's (and I want to say that it's Ashley, because she was always supposed to be the "girly-girl" to MK's tomboy in their straight-to-VHS movies) outfit is my favorite, but they're both 70s low key and perfect.

The Search for Perfect Skin: Murad, Part 1

I was not blessed with perfect skin. Far from it, my skin is consistently broken out on my nose, chin, forehead, hairline, and even - as embarrassing as it is - my back and chest. As someone who's consumed with thoughts of what I'm wearing, I don't want to have to worry about my complexion on top of that. And, more than anything, I don't want to have to worry about having the skin of a 15 year old while I'm wearing a Celine Spring 2011 inspired outfit; the two worlds just don't mesh.

For years I've tried drugstore products that promise to leave me with clear skin in the blink of an eye, but nothing has worked. So I'm beginning the official Search for Perfect Skin. This search and report entails an overhaul of my sugar-filled diet and a revival of my long dead exercise routine, as well as investment in some high end skincare brands. The first brand I'm going with is Murad and their Acne Complex Introductory Kit:

That's about life size up there

The Murad Acne Complex Intro Kit promises a noticeably different feel in one day, a noticeably different look in three days, and completely clear skin in four weeks. They caution that skin will get worse before it gets better due to the medicine's ability to draw impurities from under the skin. Reviews online are very mixed, about half claiming that the product made their skin worse than ever and another half that it cleared their skin more than they could ever hope.

Currently I'm on day 5, and I've got some mixed reviews myself. The skin on my cheeks and chin, which is usually abnormally soft, feels rough and almost bumpy. Thankfully it doesn't look that way, but it doesn't look clear either. After the first day or so I did notice a difference in the clarity of my skin, but, as the kit promised, it has started to get worse. Small pimples (I hate that word) have begun to pop up here and there, but nothing too embarrassing. The moisturizer, which I have to use more of than the kit recommends, gives my skin a dewy glow, which I appreciate having not gone to the beach like the rest of my friends over spring break. The cleanser and gel do burn when I apply them, but I would expect as much from products containing salicylic acid. Seeing as my skin is getting worse before it gets better, I haven't found much solace in the spot treatment just yet, but we'll see as the weeks roll on.

I promise to be diligent in my skin trials and report weekly on how my skin is clearing up. This segment is really important to me, not only because I'm very personally invested in its results, but because fashion shies away from real acne. Sure, they'll tell you how to blast a break out here and there, but they never address those of us with bad skin year round and almost act as though it doesn't exist. My hope is that not only I can clear up my skin, but help find a product that works and spread the word to other fashion lovers who suffer from the same poor skin problems as me.

T by Alexander Wang Fall 2011

Alexander Wang has really stepped up his T collection for fall. I've always been a fan of the lower priced line, but something's been missing from the series of perfect tshirts and body con tank dresses until now. The addition of sheer fabrics and panne micro velvet pieces are what really took these clothes to the next level; they look sleek and sophisticated compared to T's current offerings. The collection still stays true to the aesthetic of the brand though, with jersey knits and a pair of sweats for good measure. I also love that this line seems to compliment Alex Wang's amazing fall 2011 ready-to-wear collection. The best part? The most expensive item (the liquid maxi dress) is only $350. I'll be counting down the days until these stunners go on sale.

Capulet London

Constantly being introduced to things that I don't need on Bleach Black. The latest are these laptop clutches from Capulet London. I've never used a laptop case and have never felt the need for one... until now. At first glance, I believed these to have been made by Celine and I almost dismissed them as something that I would never be able to afford. At around $300 per clutch, they still aren't exactly a bargain, but when they're made from European leather and lined in suede, at least you're getting what you pay for. Unlike a certain pair of shoes that I mentioned recently.

Missoni Loves Havaianas

In other collaboration news: Missoni has teamed up with Havaianas to create a capsule collection of flip flops (two styles of women's, one of unisex) along with one pair of espadrilles for the summer season. It will launch in early May and prices will range from $60-130. A little pricey for your standard, plastic thong sandal if you ask me; but you better believe that hoards of young women everywhere are going to jump at the chance to own something with the name Missoni printed on it. Purchase will be available at Havaianas and Missoni boutiques, and online at Us.havaianas.com. What say you? Worth it for Margharita's stamp of approval on your shower shoes?

Jesse Jo for Vans

The internet's been abuzz lately with news of Jesse Jo's collaboration with iconic skate brand Vans, so if you haven't seen one already, here's a sneak peak. These are just my two favorite pieces. You can view more at Nylon.

Ideally, the tennies would be in different colors, but the style is close enough to those infamous Prada creepers that who can really complain? Plus, you can probably just switch out the laces and dye the canvas anyway, if your heart so desires. As for the backpack (and I was just telling you about my newfound love for the carriers), there's nothing better than leopard print and Americana. Putting them together? Perfection. The line launches April 1st and will be available for purchase in Pacsun stores and at Karmaloop online.

One of the most common celebrity comparisons I get is Scarlett Johansson, which is a real stretch, but a real compliment nonetheless. A Very Happy Unbirthday to Me

Hey there, it's me: Katie! Remember me? I used to co-run this blog? Lightyears ago, I know, but I'm finally back from midterms, back from spring break, back from the dead. And hopefully there will be no more unannounced extended leave-of-absences from me anytime soon.

Now it's time to get down to business.

I'm a very frequent user of nail polish; sometimes I wonder whether or not my polish purchases single-handedly kept the nail polish industry afloat during the economic crisis here in the states. Nail polish is my favorite accessory, so I change up my color every two or three days. Naturally this leads me to get bored with all the reds and the pinks and the Chanel-it-colors out there and naturally this urge to find something interesting lead me to a small stroke upon first seeing Deborah Lippmann's Happy Birthday (pictured above). It's like you stuffed the following picture into a tiny glass bottle:

So this afternoon when my friend Hannah pulled Happy Birthday out of her bag and placed it into my hands, I was overwhelmed with joy and also the urge to just kind of paint the stuff all over my hands (I didn't).

This stuff is seriously the greatest. It's a little messy in the picture, but it's hard not to smear when you're shaking with excitement.

Pros: The best glitter nail polish I've ever used. The colors are evenly distributed and the flakes of glitter vary in size, yielding a very cool 3D-like effect. For a glitter nail polish, this stuff dries relatively fast. A few hours after I applied my million coats it would smudge a little if I was doing any manual labor with my hands, but the glitter was easily pressed back into place. Also, I mean, just look at it and ask yourself, what's not to love?

Cons: Difficult to apply with accuracy because it's very thick from all the glitter. Also, it takes a LOT of coats to achieve the effect I got. When I say a lot I mean 6 or 7; my nails are about 1/4 an inch thicker now.

Worth it? DUH!

Vena Cava's e-commerce portion of their site launched yesterday; and while I was hoping to find more of their lower priced Viva line available for purchase, the selection is depressingly slim. I did, however, find one gem for sale: the 90s Leather Baby Backpack. I'm kind of on a backpack kick right now anyway, but you have to admit that this version is pretty much perfect. It's the exact same style that two of my older cousins had when I was about four or five, and I was insanely jealous of both of them for it. Fifteen years later, and I'm still pining for my own.

From Runway to Real Life

Remember that Viktor & Rolf collection that Mr. Horsting and Snoeren created for spring 2011 that was great conceptually, but didn't always seem super wearable? Look how amazingly this woman (shot by Tommy Ton for Style.com) translated the white look from above for the real world. A sleek bun, some oversize glasses, and a single metallic cuff made the shirtdress look chic, and hell, almost downright minimalist. Which I never thought I would say about a puffy sleeved oxford with a bib front, at least two collars, three sets of hems, and three cuffs on each arm.

It's great looking at runway collections and analyzing different trends etc., but sometimes it's so much more fun to see how people interpret these styles and make them their own. This is what fashion is all about.

Please Stop the Shock Shoes

They were the shoes heard 'round the world: Alexander McQueen's spring 2010 "armadillo heels." And when they first walked the runway a year and a half ago, I loved them. At a staggering 10 inches high, the footwear was the perfect compliment to the late designer's otherworldly, underwater collection. Audience members gawked at them, and several models flat-out refused to walk the show in them due to safety issues (a valid argument, I would say).

Nina Ricci fall '09, Alexander McQueen fall '11, Mugler fall '11

Those were not the first outrageous shoes to teeter down the runway, though. Oliver Theyskens sent a heelless pair out in Paris for Nina Ricci in the fall 2009 season (top, left) that caused a stir in the fashion industry. Different versions of sky high platforms have been seen often on the runways ever since. However, anyone who has taken a basic fashion course has probably heard the old rule that, "All trends end in excess." And that's what seems to be happening with these part stripper heel, part piece of art hybrids. With the platforms getting more and more chunky, heights towering ever more high, you have to admit that many runway shoes are starting to look plain absurd.

The fact of the matter is, none of these heels will ever even make it to retail. They make one appearance at show time, only to be taken immediately after and placed in some storage room for forever more. Brands produce far more toned down versions for the buying public; and unless someone like Daphne Guinness or Lady Gaga decides that she wants a pair, they will never see the light of day again. So what's the point? Say what you will about artist license, but fashion shows are first and foremost a tool for designers to showcase their collections to buyers and editors. These buyers and editors then serve the general public by selling or reporting on the newest fashions. Sending out these monstrosities on poor girls' feet isn't doing anyone any good at this point.

And aside from that reasoning, I'm just plain sick of embellished platforms. There's nothing exciting or fresh about them after seeing variations on the same version for five seasons in a row. Thus, I would like to commend Nicolas Ghesquiere at Balenciaga and Riccardo Tisci at Givenchy for sending out the below gorgeous, sophisticated shoes for their fall 2011 shows. After a relatively long absence from the runways, pointy toe pumps feel like a subtly sexy alternative to overtly sexual platforms. These sleek designs exemplify that this style doesn't have to be boring; eye catching slits and statement making patterns can still keep things interesting without resorting to publicity stunts.

On The Fringe

What with the Fall collections almost done showing, it's time to start focusing on the trends they've produced. While there was a big emphasis this season on modern textures (like plastic) and 60's shape, there was the Native American influence that popped up from show to show as well. While I can delve into 60's style a little here and there, plastic is not my thing. I like sensual fabrics that move with the body. So you can bet I've been much more inspired by the Native trends for fall. Something I'd never delved into in that realm is fringe. It's fun and kitsch, but still, for the most part, wearable. It's a little more summery than it is cold-weather, so hopefully I'll be able to break out some mean fringe come May or June.

A Little of New York

Thought I'd share a few shots from our trip to NY. The first two are actually of me attempting to pack and plan outfits, along with Phineas being super helpful as I tried to pack my camera. Then there are the best palm frites that I've ever tasted from a restaurant whose name I can't remember, a few good outfits, swag from the Jill Stuart show, a building in "The Village" (my mother tells me that this is the appropriate way to refer to Greenwich Village) whose address appears to be 387 1/2, and the store front of Alexander McQueen. Oh, and did we tell you that while shopping at Diane von Furstenberg in the meatpacking district, DVF herself came into the store because, "[she] just felt like shopping"? Just thought I'd brag a little bit.

Sorry if I'm a little MIA for the next week or so; I'm going skiing in Colorado for spring break and plan on being on the slopes all day every day, so I may fall a little bit behind fashion-wise.

Crystal Renn for J. Crew

Crystal Renn has been the subject of constant scrutiny throughout the past few years as she's risen to modeling stardom. Her fluctuating weight and past eating disorder have been constantly discussed by the fashion media, but that kind of attention seems to be dying down as she continues to book work for major clients and esteemed magazines. Though some may view Renn's latest job for J. Crew as a ploy for publicity by the brand, I actually think that she is a perfect fit for the preppy company. Her all-American good looks and commercial appeal make her look right at home in the spring catalogue.

Academy Awards Red Carpet 2011

It's Oscars time! As is well known, the 83rd Academy Awards were Sunday night. Congrats to the winners, but more importantly congrats to the 11 ladies (Anne Hathaway x2) featured above, as they are Les Deux's best dressed of this year's Oscar ceremony. No time for small talk about who won what; continue on below the jump for larger pictures and critiques.

Gwenyth Paltrow in Calvin Klein

Paltrow was literally a stunner in this pearly silver, embellished gown. The super sleek look was something like a sexy cross between Cleopatra and a crusader in shining armor. Paired with glossy, middle-parted hair and fresh, bronze skin, Paltrow was a knockout.

Sandra Bullock in Vera Wang

Despite the 2010 Best Actress' steely appearance at the award show, she looked elegant and fresh in this bright red gown. Minimal hair, makeup, and jewelry went perfectly with this floor-sweeper that gave Bullock the hourglass figure every woman dreams of having. One thing she was missing? A real smile on the red carpet.

Amy Adams in L'Wren Scott

I'm halfway speechless about the gown that Adams wore to the Academy Awards. Halfway because I'm 50% stunned by how gorgeous this dress is on her; the blue is a perfect shade for her milky skin and fiery hair, the fit is amazing, the eye-popping emerald jewelry, the slit up to there, the head to toe embellishment(!)...need I say more? But then there's another 50% of me that knows this look could have been executed better. From the bust down, Adams looks great, but at the top she looks so covered up. Adams should have pulled her hair back, at least part of the way, in order to avoid hiding so much of her neck and face.

Mandy Moore in Monique Lhuillier

Moore was dreamlike in this sparkling gown. The thick band of sequins that ran across her middle section was akin to the milky way in a clear night sky. Combined with classy hair and makeup, Moore's look had an ethereal feel that was hard not to notice. Despite some thoughts that Moore "blended in with the crowd", I have the opposite opinion; Moore shone like a star.

Natalie Portman in Rodarte

Staying true to the designers who collaborated on the costumes for her Best Actress movie, Portman looked stunning in a plum Rodarte gown that draped beautifully over her baby bump. Glowing skin, flowing curls, and tassel earrings complimented this off-the-shoulder dress. The entire look was very soft and romantic; perfect for a soon-to-be mom.

Anne Hathaway in Valentino

The first of the co-host's eight award show dresses was this popping number from Valentino. Simple and sleek until the rose-like ruching at the thighs, this gown was elegant and classic with a modern twist. The color and fit were perfect for Hathaway's long frame and creamy skin. Ruched gowns like the one above always remind me a little from Belle's yellow gown in Beauty and the Beast (yes, I'm 7 years old), and because of Hathaway's resemblance to the Disney character, this one really did.

Camila Alves in Kaufman Franco

No, look away from Matthew McConaughey; he looks alright, but it's his lady I want to focus on. Alves truly rocked this crazy-elegant black gown. She looked so stately and graceful, like an ethnic Grace Kelly. Had this gown been a creamy white color, she would embody all that I want to look like as a bride.

Hailee Steinfeld in Marchesa

Always age appropriate, always fresh, always stunning Hailee Steinfeld showed up to the Oscars in yet another red carpet stunner. Probably the most youthful she has ever looked, Steinfeld was like a princess in this fantastic tulle Marchesa dress. I'm beginning to wonder if it's possible for Steinfeld to have a styling mistake, but I don't think it is. Either way, I'll continue to look forward to seeing more looks from her.

Cate Blanchett in Givenchy Couture

So long now I have waited to see a celebrity wear a dress from one of Givenchy's Fall or Spring Couture collections and finally the day has come. While the hair didn't necessarily compliment this very avant garde look, I was still so happy to see someone wear this piece of art that it is one of my favorite looks from the ceremony all together.

Anne Hathaway in Giorgio Armani

Out of all Hathaway's looks during and before the award show, this one felt the most right. It was so spot on. The shape and cut were sleek and sophisticated while the color and texture were hyper-modern. Truly a calculated risk that paid off and paid off well.

Mila Kunis in Elie Saab

Are there words? This is one of the best red carpet looks I've seen in years. This racy look was stunning on Kunis, and I can't think of anyone who could have worn it better. The look was a sexy juxtaposition between demure lavender lace and the leaves-little-to-the-imagination peekaboos on the lower half of the dress. A+++, no more to say.

Jennifer Lawrence in Calvin Klein

Another sexy stunner was Winter's Bone's Jennifer Lawrence, who looked like a ball-gowned Baywatch babe in this curve-hugging dress. Unlike Kunis, Lawrence had absolutely no detail, yet was still stunning. The lack of accessories other than one simple bracelet and a small, sparkling clutch allowed Lawrence to showcase her killer body and fantastic voluminous hair without any clutter getting in the way.

Versace

I'm still trying to dissect why I liked Versace as much as I did. Usually the label isn't quite my taste, but Donatella has really impressed me with the past two seasons. For fall, she employed a lot of cartoony baroque flowers that reminded me of Prada spring 2011, as well as leather and gold sailor buttons, of all things. But somehow, the show flowed really well, and these unexpected elements worked together to create looks that I am absolutely dying to own. The A-line leather trench especially. Whatever it is that you're doing Donatella, keep it up.

Bottega Veneta

Bottega Veneta was probably my favorite of these three collections. Whenever I think of the brand, I think of beautiful, handcrafted bags, but I really never consider their ready-to-wear. As it turns out, the clothes definitely match up to the accessories in terms of quality. The floral dresses with delicate lace overlays made the biggest impression on me, and the closing oragami-bustier dresses were nearly as good. I was not blown away by the opening looks (they were pretty dull), but in the end I would say that this was a strong showing by Tomas Maier.

Emporio Armani

I have to say, I'm a little bit biased against Armani. I can't ever remember seeing a show from the label that I have really liked, as a matter of fact. That said, Giorgio definitely knows his customer. When I think of Armani, I usually think of middle aged business executives who want to look professional, but show that they have a little bit of an edge. This all black collection is perfect for them. Some of the velvet and ruffled looks were a little derivative of their fall 2010 show, but the layering was unexpected and fresh, and there was a lot of intriguing detailing. Overall, some great clothes for the corporate, fashion forward woman.

Food for Thought: The Rise of Andrej Pejic

In case you haven't heard, Andrej Pejic is a 19 year-old Serbian boy who is taking the women's modeling world by storm. Yes, you read that right. The women's modeling world. His biggest coup has been closing the Jean Paul Gaultier spring 2011 couture collection in a show-stopping "wedding gown" (later worn by Rihanna to the Grammys). He also walked this month in NYFW for Jen Kao, has been featured in Italian Vogue and French Vogue, and currently stars in the ad campaigns of Marc by Marc Jacobs and Jean Paul Gaultier. Pejic isn't the first male to model women's high fashion, although he is the first to do so on such a broad level. This summer Katie mentioned transgender model Lea T., whom has modeled for Givenchy, among other things. I never really gave either model much thought. The fashion industry is known for being edgy and making statements, or whatever, and these two models both just seemed pretty gimmicky to me. But this morning I came across an article on the Daily Mail that really examined what they see as the issue at hand. With designers, editors, and stylists clamoring to work with the thinnest of the thin girls, essentially pushing them to choose between starvation or early retirement, isn't it only a natural progression for them to start working with men instead? If they want flat-chested, surfboard-skinny models (because this is supposedly "just what their clothing looks best on"), why even bother with women? Why not just go straight to hiring pretty guys? I had never really examined the issue, but Amanda Platell's piece certainly puts it in a thought-provoking light. The Holy Trinity of NY

Every time fashion month rolls around, kicking off with our dear NYFW, we find ourselves anticipating three shows above all others: Alexander Wang, Marc Jacobs, and Proenza Schouler. Though you may have different opinions on the matter, for us, these three brands are the absolute creme de la creme of New York fashion. They represent three different maturations of design, and each has a completely unique and compelling perspective. Marc is obviously the oldest and most established, and it's always interesting to see what theme he chooses to delve into for each season. Jack and Lazaro of Proenza make up the up-and-coming classic brand, favorite of prominent editors and young bloggers alike. And Alexander is the young breakout star, who still struggles to find his footing every now and then, but is becoming more confident and coherent with every progressing collection.

And so, without further ado, follow the jump for our thoughts on our three favorites' fall 2011 ready-to-wear shows.

Marc Jacobs

Here's the deal with Marc Jacobs: We've had the rest of this post ready for about a week now, but we haven't been able to come up with anything to say about this show. We didn't love it, we didn't hate it. Jacobs was said that he was looking to create something, "strict and severe," and he definitely achieved that. One of the reasons I often don't know what to say about his collections is that every season they come from such a different place, that I often have to completely reorient myself before I can process the clothes. On another note, polka dots seem to be having a moment, and they certainly made a statement in Marc's collection, but I myself am just not a polka dots person. I don't think that it's an attractive pattern, and I hope that this trend dies fast. That said, no one can argue that Marc is not a brilliant designer, and I have a feeling that this collection will have grown on me by the time autumn rolls around. And, I kind of love the accessories already. - Jax

Proenza Schouler

If the other Fall 2011 shows hadn't already done the job, Proenza Schouler firmly cemented the fact that fall will be all about Native American style. But don't go breaking out your old fringed moccasins and friendship bracelets just yet. Jack and Lazaro took this hippie-vibed native concept and translated it as super sleek and modern; so much so that I title the collection Navajo Astronaut Businesswoman. Buttery leathers, pixelated geometric prints, and impeccably tailored jackets thrusted this collection from the native plains of the American Midwest far into the future. The looks were comprised of distinct Native American influences (like a crochet skirt, skewed chevron print pants, or a shearling-clad coat) paired with silhouettes and pieces that evoked images of Balenciaga's immaculate, futuristic design aesthetic. The cocktail dresses were too good to wear out for cocktails. The shoes were insanely sexy. The button-up blouses were perfection sewn into shirts. All praise given, there were some elements that were less than pleasing, such as the 80's color palette that swept through a few of the looks, the Bill Cosby-esque sweaters, and one or two of the velvet pieces. Honestly, this was definitely not my favorite Proenza Schouler collection, but that's really not saying much for a brand that, in my mind, has never once had a bad collection. You can bet I'll be crossing my fingers for a well-priced collaboration based on this collection. - Katie

Alexander Wang

Alexander Wang created achingly, unbearably, obscenely cool skiwear that I would only be all too happy to wear in the mountains of Colorado when I go for spring break next week. After a couple collections that left me feeling lukewarm toward the acclaimed designer, this show renewed my status as a full fledged Wangette (a term used for his fan-girls, for the uninformed). The clothes successfully continued his tough-girl chic aesthetic, while simultaneously possessing a hint of tongue-in-cheek cleverness, as evidenced by mink wrapped sunglasses straps, and puffed up fur collars that are not only playful, but practical. I can't imagine that it would be possible to get chilled when rocking one the neck pillow-esque versions that made appearances on the runway. Other standout aspects of the collection were the final slashed satin looks, pops of neon lining that was only revealed through undone zippers, and what Katie accurately described as ombre hair, but with different types of fabrics (as seen in the top right look, above). These are the clothes that will have me desperately watching the Outnet for marked down pieces for years to come. - Jax

Burberry Prorsum Fall 2011 RTW

Apparently I've been in a bad mood lately, because the past few reviews that I've done have been at least partially negative. I promise that Burberry is my last, after this one if I don't like a collection I'll just try to keep my mouth shut. At any rate, here I go again, because I really did not enjoy Burberry's fall 2011 showing. Is Christopher Bailey under contract do produce a certain amount of coats per season? Don't get me wrong, the man designs some good outwear, as evidenced by fall 2010, but this collection seemed to have an inordinate amount. I also wasn't wild about the 1960s color palette nor was I about awkward sleeve lengths and strange capes. As Tim Blanks from Style.com said, "[There was] one helluva lot of coat and not one helluva lot of range."

Gucci Spring 2011 RTW

With bows, flower appliques, and sheer numbers with slits-up-to-there galore, Frida Giannini's fall 2011 show for Gucci ended up looking eerily similar to Marc Jacobs for spring 2011 at times. Giannini's looks were good enough, in fact, I think that I even prefer her versions of the flowing maxi dresses; but unfortunately, Gucci's collection seems to be a beat too late. 1970s influence littered the runways last season from Milan to Paris, and it's a trend that's perfect for springtime. However, fall's zeitgeist is looking much more sophisticated, with 1940s Hollywood glam vibes striking a cord among buyers and retailers alike. Gianni may have achieved this with some of her furs and a few smartly tailored jackets, but for the most part she missed the mark by cutting up those looks with over-the-top boho-chic attire.

Mary Katrantzou Fall 2011 RTW

I'm all torn up about what to say about Mary Katrantzou's fall 2011 show. On the one hand, she produced one of my favorite collections that walked in 2010, and I wish nothing but great things for the young designer. On the other, a lot of her looks for the fall season fell short in my book. In fact, as I viewed the show, I found myself either head-over-heels in love or completely hating every look, never falling anywhere in between (loved the ones at the top, not so much the ones on the bottom, just F.Y.I.).

The pieces that I did not enjoy were the ones with prints that crossed into cartoon-ish territory, far from the home decor photographs that covered the dresses in her spring show. Another aspect that I found myself loathing was Katrantzou's gratuitous layering. These looks had that "everything plus the kitchen sink plus every single floral pattern that ever existed" quality that rendered them unflattering and unwearable. I wish that someone had told the designer that less is more, especially when she's already been proven to have such a flair for print making. This, however, is not a total Mary Katrantzou bashing session; as I said before, I absolutely adored some of the looks. The dresses with sleeker cuts were far more suited for the intense patterns and brilliant colors, and I much preferred the more rhythmic prints to those that were all over the place. It's much easier to appreciate the designer's craftsmanship when my eyes aren't going numb from so much chaos. Overall, not a terrible collection, just kind of a let down compared to Katrantzou's brilliant spring 2011 season.

Erdem Fall 2011 RTW

Erdem Moralioglu has been one of my favorite designers for the past few seasons, and he definitely upheld his status as such with his fall 2011 show. The designer tackled unfamiliar territory, employing more relaxed silhouettes and artful draping in addition to his usual ladylike, structured pieces. I was also happy to see the dark prints after Erdem's foray into lace for the spring 2011 season. I can't wait to see whether rumors of his designing for the royal wedding prove to be true after this beautiful, spirited collection.

Jeremy Scott Fall 2011 RTW

Jeremy Scott stuck with the general 90's trend for fall, but took it in a completely different direction from grunge: 90's pop culture. While I love, love, LOVE grunge, I missed being old enough to dress myself in plaids and safety pins by only a few years. I did not, however, miss the period of the Spice Girls, Tomagotchi, Zenon Girl of the 21st Century, Powerpuff Girls, etc.. The late 90's semi-Japanese inspired semi-out-of-control style of dress was much more a part of my life than grunge ever was until it's recent resurgence. Maybe that's why Scott's Fall collection struck such a cord with me. 90's references in fashion have gotten so serious and dark, that it feels refreshing to see a fun, kitsch, sarcastic take on the trend. As a college student, I can still afford to Manic Panic my pigtails and wear hot pink leather (or pleather) pleated skirts for another year or two without looked absolutely out of my mind, so you can bet yourself that I'll be delving into the fun 90's asap.

One of the reasons that Tommy Ton is one of my favorite streetstyle photographers is because rather than just posting full body shots of famous editors, models, and the like, he focuses on really interesting aspects of their outfits that otherwise would go unnoticed. It was less than a month ago that I last posted some of his photos for Style.com, but here I go again. I had noticed that some of the show goers at couture week were looking more relaxed than usual, but that's all changed, as they've pulled out all the stops for the ready-to-wear collections. These are just a couple of my favorite shots, with no particular theme in mind. However, the two biggest trends that seem to keep popping up are fur (of course), and craft influences (what have I been telling you all along?).

Harley Viera Newton by The Coveteur

Again and again and again I will tell you, I can't not post something that puts cats and fashion together. And I know that there has been a lot of drama surrounding The Coveteur's site, but to be honest, it's my favorite of the "covet" sites (don't tell Jennine Jacob, though... Katie and I heard her absolutely go off on someone when things at her conference didn't go her way, and it was terrifying). At any rate, The Coveteur takes tours of the lust-worthy closets of editors and fashion people, then photographs them for all of us to salivate over. One of their newest entries is DJ Harley Viera Newton, whom owns an inordinate amount of Tom Binns accessories, and awesomely models them on her cat. These are just the pictures including Binns pieces, which is roughly one-fourth of them.

Cushnie et Ochs Fall 2011 RTW

The collection was a distinctly Cushnie et Ochs take on the Native American tribes of the Wild, Wild West complete with "elastic boning" inspired by American tribal jewelry, loads of fringe and fur, feathers in the models' hair - the works. Among the many native references were leather tops and dresses that were as smooth and buttery looking as those of Celine and mane-like fur that hung down from the hemlines of dresses and skirts. Unlike the typical neutral palette associated with Native Americans though, Cushnie et Ochs went with a very shocking palette of inky black, metallic silver, airy white, and bright purple. As unusual as the colors were for the theme of the collection, paired with Cushnie et Ochs' signature minimal, slightly apocalyptic shapes, it really worked.

Rodarte Fall 2011 RTW

Laura and Kate Mulleavy's fall 2011 collection for Rodarte is the most polished and wearable that they've produced to date, but it still manages to retain the imaginative aesthetic that the design duo is renowned for. Geometric shapes dominated the midwest-inspired show, and silk dresses printed with literal photographs of the American Plains made several appearances. The crossed fabric torsos that I've come to love and expect from the Mulleavys were also utilized, but my favorite part of the show were the red sequined dresses at the end. As the sisters said, "[They] couldn't go to Nebraska and Kansas and not do a Wizard of Oz reference."

Vena Cava Fall 2011 Nails

I wasn't overly impressed with the clothes in Vena Cava's fall 2011 collection, but one aspect of the show that I can definitely get behind are the nails. A lot of the beauty styles seen on the runways are a little intense for everyday life, or just plain outlandish, but this is a simple look that can easily be duplicated to make you feel trendy and ahead of the curve. Plus, after trying every color of the rainbow on my digits the old-fashioned way, it's time to try something new and innovative. This is absolutely one that I will be wearing at home

The Row Fall 2011 RTW

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's latest collection for their high-end brand, The Row, has taken luxe to a whole other level. While the clothes retain their famous sleek lines and the impeccable tailoring of seasons past, it was the textile choices that gave them a new, covetable grandeur. Furs, cashmere, and embroidery abounded; but sleek belts, and flats from the Olsens' collaboration with Toms kept the looks grounded. Some of the standout pieces included a shiny maroon crocodile skin top, and a chunky knit paired with a lace ankle length maxi skirt. It is also notable that this season is the first time the label has ventured into using color; in previous seasons they had only employed a neutral palette for their clothes. I would say that they did so with considerable success, as the mustard pieces were among my favorites. This fashion week marked the twins' first foray into handbags, as well. Although I haven't seen any detailed pictures of them, Style.com claims that the purses have a "clean, unadorned look," and will priced comparatively to Hermes. Mary-Kate and Ashley are my favorite celebrities-turned-designers (not that there's much competition), and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing them elaborate on their original minimalist aesthetic for fall 2011.

Thoughts on Fall 2011

"Just like artists make paintings to go on a wall or perform in a way to fit a space, they're designing clothes to fit people's bodies. It's like watching a moving sculpture."

As much as I hate that it's true; my life is pretty hectic right now. I returned home from New York yesterday to knocked down curtains and unraveled toilet paper thanks to my rambunctious kitten, I have a decent amount of schoolwork to do, I still haven't unpacked from my trip, and I desperately need a trip to the gym. All that, plus it's a beautiful 60 degrees and sunny here in southern Kentucky today, and all that I really want to do is sit outside on my balcony and read a good book.

So in lieu of reviewing any shows for now, here are some of my favorite NYFW moments so far: a quote Kalup Linzy gave at the Cynthia Rowley show; buns woven with fabric at Thakoon; Kate Foley's outfit that she wore to Lincoln Center on Sunday; looks that appear to be layered, but are really all one piece so that you don't have to deal with actually putting together layers yourself at Preen; and Alexander Wang's outstanding fall collection that has completely renewed my faith in the young designer.

Our View at Jill Stuart Fall 2011

As I mentioned before, Katie and I had the honor of attending the Jill Stuart fall/winter 2011 show earlier today at Lincoln Center, and it absolutely did not fail to impress. The collection showcased some of my favorite current trends such as below-the-knee hemlines and graphic color blocking, but the real standout aspects were the knife pleats and unexpected pops of metallic gold hues. Being that this was the first runway show that we here at Les Deux have ever seen in person, the experience really made the clothes that much more special to us. Also, on top of getting free Frappuccinos and Fiji Water at the event, we managed to snag some gift bags with Jill Stuart makeup (it doesn't take much to excite us). Luckily, from our position in the venue, Katie and I were able to document some of the show. Above, you can see some photos taken by yours truly, and below, you can watch a video of the finale shot by Katie.

NYC's The Place To Be

So we've made it to New York. So far it's been cold, dusty, confusing, and expensive, but totally great. Highlights have been meeting/seeing famous fashion bloggers like Susie Bubble, the Face Hunter, The Man Repeller, Mr. Street Peeper, etc., knowing that Tavi Gevinson was in the same building as us at the Vena Cava show, and, of course, hearing Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez speak (I even got to ask them a question, huzzaaah!). The IFB conference yesterday was awesome, in a word, and we'll be posting more pictures and info about it later, scout's honor.

A Peek at Fall

Collide-O-Scope

Meet Sally Hansen's Collide-O-Scope Salon Effects nail polish.

If you haven't heard of Sally Hansen Salon Effects, it's basically a peel and stick nail polish kit with all sorts of great patterns and colors. I scoured every Walgreens/CVS/Rite-Aid/Walmart in the vicinity for the great leopard printed nails that I saw on Move Slightly, but after failing to find them, I settled on this Prada-esque camo print that is exactly how a nail polish baby of their Pre-Fall and Spring collections would appear.

As with everything, however, there is the good and the bad:

The Good

The colors are super bright and fun.

The kit comes with a handy little nail file/buffer and wooden stick (technical term?) for pushing back cuticles, which makes it a lot easier to apply the "polish".

I've gotten a million compliments on them, and I feel like I can stick to my usual wardrobe of mostly black and still look accessorized.

The Bad

They're expensive. One kit comes with a mere 16 "nails" and costs $10, so you can't even apply them more than once.

They're kind of ridiculously hard to apply. Maybe my kit was faulty, because I saw nothing but good reviews on the ease of application. Maybe I'm just bad with my hands. Either way, it took me about 35 minutes to apply those suckers and they still didn't go on very smoothly.

Some of the colors were faded before I even put them on my nails. The continuity from nail to nail isn't that great.

3 days in and my nails are already starting to chip at the tips and pucker upward at the cuticle, despite the fact that they are supposedly chip free for up to 10 days.

So all in all the bad definitely outweighs the good. That said, I can't stop staring at or thinking about my trippy camo nails, so they're at least making me happy, which is all that really counts anyway. Worth it? Not really. Will I buy them again? Probably. Like flowers, this nail kit is expensive and will expire in a week anyway. Only, unlike flowers, I get to wear this product and enjoy it everywhere I go. Hopefully I'll be able to find the leopard print next time I invest in this kit, but if not, I may have to go with the black and white houdstooth. As much as I hate that print, I've got to admit that it looks pretty badass in the pictures I found on Google.

First Look at Bhldn

Here they are: the much anticipated pieces from Urban Outfitter's newest venture, bridal line Bhldn. The dresses will range from $1000 to $4000, which seems a little steep for contemporary bridalwear, especially considering the fact that Vera Wang's gorgeous collection for David's Bridal is priced $1400 and under. At any rate, the dresses are really pretty in their own quirky, Antho/Urban sort of way. Bhldn's e-commerce site will launch on Valentine's Day, and the company plans to open two to three free standing stores in 2012. It will also sell such wedding accessories as head pieces, flower garlands, cake toppers, and shoes, among other things. The brand plans to expand into providing photography, catering, and florists, and aims to make dresses for other special occasions as well. A spokesperson for Bhldn said, "We've taken the DNA from Anthropologie. I kind of think of Bhldn as the sophisticated older sister."

What Does A Black Swan Wear?

So I know I'm probably killing you with Black Swan posts, but I don't care. This is half my blog, I will write every single post about Black Swan if I want to.

Great, now that I'm over that power trip, here's a great video I just found about the costumes in the movie. As you may well know if you follow fashion news, there' a bit of a discrepancy over who exactly made the costumes. Was it Amy Wescott or the Rodarte girls? With both acting so insulted and offended by the others' claim as head costume designers, we may never know. However, both design teams are featured in this video, so we do hear a broad idea of what had to come together to get the costumes right. Now don't click away just yet (for those of you who already haven't), the video isn't all designing technical mumbo-jumbo; it's got a lot of great stuff about color symbolism and such. So if you're still at all interested in Black Swan, take a look (preferably in HD)

Wixson

I used to be kind of afraid of Lindsey Wixson. That's right, I felt fear for little 16-year old Lindsey from Wichita, Kansas. It's just not very often you come across such immaculately doll-like features on a real live person. And that mouth? Let's not get started on how astronomically out of this world it is (two intergalactic references in one sentence; look at me go). To this day I think that Ms. Wixson looks a little creepy in her fame-making Miu Miu ads, but as her career has grown, so has her versatility. Wixson shines in the more naturally themed editorials she's done and even more so on the runway. Jax has posted about her in the past, but somehow I haven't ever gotten around to it. So I figured I'd jump in now, while Wixson is still in the semi-early stages of her modeling career, and do a fist pump or two in support of her awesome work.

When I read on the Cut that Gemma Ward had shot an editorial for the first time in years after being rejected by the fashion industry for gaining weight, I was thrilled. Ward has been a long time favorite model of both Katie's and mine, and we had kind of given up on her ever returning to her modeling career. Especially now that she seems to have moved up in the world, what with a title role in the new Pirates movie and all. And alas, we may be right. Because this isn't editorial as I usually think of it, like high fashion editorials, it's just an editorial to go along with an interview with Australia's Sunday Telegraph Magazine. So thanks for getting us all excited, Cut writers. She still looks insanely gorgeous, though.

How To Be Realistic

Above is one of my best friends, Hannah. She's always got really great, realistic, I-just-stepped-out-of-Gap style. Yesterday she stopped by my work to visit me (please note the tacky wall colors I have to stare at for hours at a time) and I was instantly smitten with her outfit. As someone who's most often inspired by Alexander McQueen, ballet-terror movies, Tavi Gevinson, and a whole host of other brilliant, "weird" fashion icons, it's easy to forget how to dress realistically for life in a small southern city. Hannah, however, never forgets. This look reminded me of those Parisian chic outfits that are so common at The Sartorialist, but done in a very distinctly college way.

Christian Lacroix and the Tale of Sleeping Beauty

Christian Lacroix has certainly been broadening his horizons as of late. Since his namesake label shuttered in 2009, he's designed railway uniforms, served as art director for an exhibit about Middle Eastern fashion, created a capsule collection for Desigual, and, my personal favorite, made a collage of what he thinks Kate Middleton should wear on her wedding day. The couturier's latest project is a collaboration with author, Camilla Morton, on a fashion fairy tale called, "Christian Lacroix and the Tale of Sleeping Beauty." Lacroix provided all of the illustrations for the story, which are made from hand sketches and computer graphics. This is totally the bedtime story that I will read to my children, should I ever have any in the very far-off future.

Sunny Winter

Last weekend here in Tennessee the temperatures were in the high 60s. The sun was shining, birds were chirping, and everyone was outside. It was the perfect glimpse of what springtime is like in the small city where I attend college. The high is only 50 today, but the sun is shining and I think I can hear a bird somewhere outside, so that's enough for me to start preparing a dream wardrobe for a traditional southern late winter.

What, our northern/western/foreign readers may ask, is a southern late winter? Well, it basically entails one or two sunny days with temperatures in the 70s followed by 30 degree, dismal snowy/rainy weather. You never really know what to expect from a southern late winter, so your wardrobe must be able to accommodate the warmest of warms and the coldest of colds all at once.

The collection up top is a perfect blend of winter warmths and colors along with some lighter summery pieces. While some of the pieces are a tish bit unrealistic (like the $2,000 Alexander McQueen clutch that I would most certainly be using as a camera case), it's always fun to plan for the things I will one day buy with my Vogue/J. Crew stylist/casting director salary.

Oh, hey me.

So remember way back in April when I promised that you'd be seeing more personality from Les Deux in the near future? No? That's okay, nobody actually read this blog in April, so I forgive you. Anyway, I lied back then, but I'm telling you the truth now when I say that there will be more personal style from here on out. Why? Because I've finally got a camera! But before you start fretting, thinking that Les Deux will just be clogged up with outfit posts every day, let me lay down the law and make it known that I will only use my Canon Powershot for good...and by that I just mean that I'll use it sparingly.

That said, I figured I may as well celebrate my new toy with a nice little 1 a.m. outfit post. So here we go, this is how I layer like a pro:

Wearing: Boots by Wanted, pants from Gap, t-shirt from Target, navy cardigan from Gap, coat from Express, scarf from American Apparel, headband from Scarlett Begonia (a boutique in Nashville), awesome backpack from Target.

I call this look tribal soldier, because (unfortunately) my warmest coat just so happens to be almost the exact color of the pants I was wearing today. Ain't no thang; military-wear is popular right now. Plus, nothing, not even monochrome overkill, could stop me from wearing this faux-fur lined coat when it's about 25 degrees with 15 mph winds.

I'm still feeling a little uncomfortable about asking my friends to take pictures of me and then finding an awkward corner of my living room to shuffle around in while I look like I'm in a Deal Breakers promo. This is all weird/new territory for me, so please forgive obtrusive dorm furniture, grainy editing, and self-conscious 8th grader poses until I get into the swing of things. We got a deal?

With Valentine's Day less than two weeks away, a lot of fashion websites have posted features about what to get your significant other for the Hallmark holiday. A lot of them feature items with hearts, unnecessary frills, etc. (How old are we, anyway?) Thus, I've compiled wish list for that special day, with an acceptable gift option for each cliched category that I can think of. They are as follows: fragrance, lingerie, wine & spirits, jewelry, candy, and flowers. Because even if we don't get many male readers, at least they're good ideas for things to buy yourself after your boyfriend gets you a king sized Reese's thinking that it's an appropriate V-Day present.

Tokyo Milk Rose with Bees Bubble Bath no. 12

Okay, I'll be frank: I've never actually smelled Tokyo Milk's bubble bath. But with bottles like this, who really cares what it smells like? If I ever received a batch, I would more than likely never open it, but rather, I would leave it to sit on my vanity for decoration. And that way, I could enjoy it forever.

Cosabella Odile Soft Bra and Lowrider Bikini

Cosabella makes impossibly comfortable innerwear. The intimate label's Sweetie Soft Bra in gray has been my latest obsession, but the Odile bra and bikini in shell pink would be a Valentine's appropriate update.

The Chook Sparkling Shiraz

Sparkling shiraz is the first type of wine that I ever genuinely enjoyed. I tried a sip of my parents' when I was in high school, but of course, haven't come across a bottle of the variation since. All I remember is that it was sweet and tingly. Hopefully I'll be gifted a bottle in the near future, as I'm not exactly old enough to buy it myself yet.

After season after season of pendant necklaces everywhere I turn, I'm about ready to retire the style completely. This Valli choker is like a breath of fresh air. It's the perfect statement piece, and a great alternative to bib necklaces, which I've never really liked anyway.

Dorothy Lane Market Chocolate Fix Basket

Dorothy Lane's Killer Brownies are seriously one of the best sweet treats that I've ever had. My dad has ordered them the past few years around Christmas, and they have become my one of my favorite things about the holidays. This chocolate basket from the company features the famous Killer Brownies, plus chocolate bars, chocolate sauce, and hot chocolate mix.

Pottery Barn Faux Flowers

As much as I appreciate getting real flowers, these fake ones from Pottery Barn make a real case for themselves. They come in a variety of types, and the branched style makes them stand out from the usual faux flower options. Something that you can enjoy forever has to be better than something that just dies in a week, right?

So the Screen Actors Guild Awards were two nights ago and I had a much more difficult time narrowing down a list of favorite looks than I did with the Golden Globes. I feel like the attendees really upped their wardrobe game on this one. As you can see in my collage above, this made my selection of noteworthy looks rather large. Since I don't want to overrun our page, the individual reviews and info on who's-wearing-what are below the jump.

Natalie Portman in Azzaro

Love her. Can't get enough of her. Is this look blowing my mind? No, but I love that Portman went with a very simple, clean look that completely accentuates her second trimester baby bump. All of the accessories are stunning ($2 million worth of Tiffany's will do that for you I guess), but not overwhelming in any way. She clearly put the focus of this outfit on the bun in the oven.

Lea Michele in Oscar de la Renta
Super sexy with a little bit of a 70's vibe going on in the dress. She nailed this look. And for once I actually enjoy seeing someone with their hair down in a red carpet gown.

Hilary Swank in Versace
Swank owned this gown. Seriously, I can't imagine anyone wearing it better. It fits her like a glove, showing off both her womanly curves and her fantastically toned arms. Even the color works well for her. My only complaint is the hair. The way it's hanging up top is reminiscent of a well-styled mop. She should have dyed it a richer shade of chocolate brown and pulled it back at least part of the way.

Jayma Mays in Jenny Packham
Mays chose a perfect style of dress for the SAG Awards; it's clearly elegant, yet it's got a casual vibe in the draping and ruched waist. Great hairstyle choice as well. Personally, I think that the look would have been off the charts if this gown were a rich navy, but nude isn't bad and she's actually found a pink enough tone that it compliments her fair skin as opposed to washing her out.

Rosario Dawson in J. Mendel
Yahoo! is right (for once) in saying that my celebrity doppelganger does appear to be just a tad bit underdressed for the occasion, but it's hard to assert that she doesn't look good. This pale hue could easily have come off as Easter-like, but paired with the sexy, floaty feel of the dress' shape, it's more "resort" than "Easter parade".

Tina Fey in Oscar de la Renta
"Ain't no party like a Liz Lemon party cause a Liz Lemon party is MANDATORY!!!!" I love me some Tina Fey (30 Rock anyone?), and so it's great to see her in an award show look that's actually good looking. No offense to Fey, but she's almost consistently on the lower end of the spectrum when it comes to red-carpet-wear, which is maybe what makes this great look such a stunner. Hopefully we'll keep seeing styling choices like this from the first lady of comedy.

Mila Kunis in Alexander McQueen

First off, kudos to Kunis for breaking out the big guns; only the highest tier of American celebrities wear McQueen to award shows these days (Lady Gaga, MObama, etc.). She really does look fantastic in this flowy, printed gown. The dress combined with her casual hair and happy demeanor really come together for a very fresh, youthful look.

Julianna Margulies in YSL

This looks is so elegant. Yes, it's modest, but I admire when a celebrity can cover themself up and still come across as beautiful and stately. Very Grecian.

Dianna Agron in Chanel

For some reason Yahoo! found this look to be matronly. I completely disagree. Sure, the hemline hits at a spot that isn't long or short, but if they happen to be aware of anything that's going on in the world of fashion trends, they would know better than to call this matronly. Agron is smokin' hot in this strapless number. From her shiny golden hair to her perfect black heels, she looks great.

Kyra Sedwick in vintage Thierry Mugler

Can you say hot? Sedwick (who is 45, by the way) is stunning in this slinky black gown. She looks super fit and powerful; the ultimate femme fatale.

January Jones in Carolina Herrera

Super pretty look on a super pretty girl. I love the lace effect that the gold has as well as how well it accentuates the natural curves of her body. Hair and makeup are spot on as well.

Hailee Steinfeld in Prada

Perfect look for a young teen. Steinfeld rocks these horizontal stripes perfectly with natural hair and makeup and fun hot pink nails. So far she's been a red carpet stunner with not a single look that is too old or young for her age, and seeing her in a dress from Prada's great Spring collection gives her double the brownie points from me.

Storytime! I have terrible skin. It wasn't always this way though. For years I took medicine that completely cleared up my skin to the point that it was (in my selfish opinion) flawless. I never had to wash it, I never had to moisturize it, and it had a nice glow in any season with or without makeup. I took this for granted for a long time. Recently, I stopped taking this miracle medicine and now my skin makes me look like a freshman in high school. It's miserable. For months now my skin has just been getting worse and worse despite my strict skincare routine and constant search for an easy, inexpensive way to combat what is seemingly adult acne (ugh...). Storytime and search over, because I think I've found my perfect solution: honey.

I read an article online a couple days ago about how honey is a miracle worker for the skin, clearing it up, smoothing it down, and giving it a healthy glow. I searched for honey masks online and found this great website full of advice and information on how to use honey to clear your skin. For the past three days now I've been wearing a plain mask of just honey (Walmart brand, if we're being specific) for about an hour at night before washing it off with warm water, and I'm already noticing differences. At first my existing acne didn't seem any different, but now I'm noticing that no new pimples are forming and the ones that are there are slowly (but surely) fading away. My face is now soft enough that I almost want to ask strangers to give it a good rub...almost. As far as glow goes, I haven't noticed any change, but maybe after a few more nights with honey smeared on my cheeks I'll have a Natalie-Portman-second-trimester-prenancy-esque glow to show off.

For anyone who wants to try a honey mask (I recommend it to everyone), here are some tips:

Apply the mask in the bathroom, because your hands will more than likely be a little sticky once it's on.
Make sure you get ALL your hair away from your face before even opening the honey, even those wispy ones next to your ears.
Use a large, flat tablespoon to apply the honey. Just turn the spoon upside down, squirt a dot of honey on the convex side, and apply to your face with the back of the spoon.
Be careful how much honey you put on the spoon; a little bit goes a long way, and the longer you leave it on, the more it will start to drip if you apply too much.
Leave the mask on for 10 - 60 minutes, and just rinse it off with warm water (as much as it feels like you'll need soap or a wash cloth to get the honey off, you won't, I promise).

Thread and Metal

Friendship bracelets have been on the rise for a while now, but recently a flashier version has come into popularity. Braided textiles wrapped with various metals are currently the of-the-moment accessory. Unsurprisingly, however, all of the pieces that I can find for sale are pretty overpriced. Shown are bracelets from Giles and Brother, Aurelie Bidermann, SCosha, Venessa Arizaga, and Frieda and Nellie, none of which are under one-hundred dollars. I actually have a cheaper, plain version from Frieda and Nellie that I love, but I can't ever see myself getting another. Especially now that I've seen a tutorial of how to make my own. Basically, to make the Aurelie Bidermann version (below, top left), all it takes is a gold chain link bracelet, which you then wrap with the thread of your choice (I'm sorry that I can't remember the blog that had this idea, if you know the one I'm talking about, please let me know). I will definitely be trying this little DIY trick this weekend and will let you all know how it goes!

Karl Lagerfeld Returns to Design at Hogan

According to WWD, Karl Lagerfeld has signed on to do a second collection for Hogan after the incredible success of his first line for the company. Honestly, between doing Chanel, Fendi, K by Karl Lagerfeld, and photography for various projects, I don't know where the man finds the time. Apparently, the items this time around will fall into one of two classes: sporty or urban. The collection is set to be unveiled on March 4, during Paris Fashion Week.

Exciting news from Les Deux: we're going to NYC during fashion week.

After receiving an email from Independent Fashion Bloggers about their NYFW Evolving Influence conference featuring Lazaro and Jack of Proenza Schouler (!), Jax and I decided that it was about time we got ourselves up to New York to at least see what fashion week is like in the city that never sleeps. While we won't necessarily be attending any shows, I can guarantee that we will do our best to sneak into them. Even taking away the possibility of conning our way into a show or two, both of us are thrilled by the prospect of seeing our most influential role models live, in person (think Freja Beha, Tavi, Crystal Renn, ADR, etc.). We officially bought plane and conference tickets yesterday, and I'm personally still giddy with excitement. You've still got about a week and a half before we're up in New York, but start getting excited for some fashion week coverage (hopefully with pictures).

Theyskens x Theory Favorites

The Theyskens x Theory collection was released for sale yesterday, but I, unlike many others, was a little underwhelmed. Yes the clothes really are good, but at their price-point it's hard to get that excited. When I think of Theory, I just don't usually think of four-digit price tags. Maybe I'm just bitter because I can't afford those killer midnight blue wedges. At any rate, the best items from the collection, in my opinion, are definitely the Desta and Delia dresses, and the Ankle Strap and Pump platforms.

Rag & Bone Spring 2011 Campaign

Rag & Bone's Marcus Wainwright and David Neville have taken an unconventional approach for their advertising this season. Rather than paying to rent out a high-end studio and hiring expensive photographers, the boys handed out digital cameras to some of their favorite models and asked them to take pictures of themselves in Rag & Bone clothing however they'd like. Once Abbey, Sasha, Edita, and Lily had taken their pictures, Wainwright and Neville blew up over 1,000 copies and plastered them all over lower-Manhattan as a guerrilla marketing platform. The end result, I have to say, is one of the best advertising campaigns that I've seen in a while.

Trend Report: Sheer Horizontal Banding

Select looks from Pedro Lourenco S/S '11, Valentino Spring '11 Couture, and Jean Paul Gaultier Spring '11 Couture

Pedro Lourenco was one of my favorite breakout designers for the spring 2011 season, so I was pleased to see that one of the main themes of his collection, sheer panels, was employed by other designers for the spring couture shows. My favorite version is the short Valentino dress (bottom left), because the use of lace for the opaque strips really goes well with the delicacy of the sheer pieces. Overall, it may not be the most wearable trend in the world, but it sure looks pretty on the runway.

As I'm sure most of you are aware, every runway show season Tommy Ton is employed by Style.com to snap images of fashion folk outside of the venues. I've been noticing from the crop of pictures this season that people seem to be dressed down quite a bit. Tee shirts have been seen in abundance, along with comfy looking hats, blue jeans, and even a pair of yoga pants. Not that any of these elements are completely out of the ordinary (except maybe the Yankees cap), but things are definitely looking more relaxed across the board compared to seasons past. Maybe I just feel that way because I haven't seen any shots of the infamous Anna Dello Russo in her amazing, over-the-top attire yet.

At any rate, the key to pulling off these laid back vibes, for me, is by choosing the right accessories. Accessories are always important, but they're especially vital here, because picking out the right pieces is what keeps these outfits looking chic instead of sloppy. A structure tote, an "it" coat, some minimal rings, luxe leather gloves, and a statement scarf all show that the above ladies put effort into their looks, rather than rolling out of bed and simply throwing on what was easiest.

I love Gisele's recent foray into high fashion, and I think Marant is a very fitting label for the relaxed Brazilian. But does anyone else think that her hand placement is kind of awkward in this shot?

Anyway, you may have noticed lately that the layout of Les Deux has been changing a lot. I, for one, actually hate change, and I often find it very difficult to deal with. However, Katie and I have recently been surged with a charge of creative energy; and thus, are attempting to restructure and create the perfect format for our blog. I just hope that we haven't scared any of our regular readers away in the process. At any rate, we have some exciting things in store for the site, so just know that the best is yet to come!

Bieber Fever

Say whaaaat?

Justin Bieber, Love Magazine. Not many similarities there, considering the fact that Love is often under the gun for their affinity with model nudity (See Huffington Post's article on the issue entitled Porn or Art?). That's why it's such a shocker that, for their fifth issue, the good people over at Love chose other than the Biebs for their cover. Yeah, I'm still confused too, especially when the alternate cover is factored into the picture:

It's not as bad as it looks; technically the one on the left is a man.

I'll admit it, Bieber's picture is a damn good one. It was, after all, shot by Terry Richardson. But that's where my praise ends and the confusion sets in again. My big question is, what will the shots inside look like? If the Justin Bieber spread is anything like the ones Love usually does then you can bet that there will be a lot of happy Beliebers out there and a nasty child pornography case on Love's hands.

This thoroughbred stands at 16 hands (about 7 feet) high, the size of a real horse and costs well over 3,000 euros. Nbd though; a real horse costs way more than that and those live ones eventually die anyway. Lamps are forever.

Givenchy Spring 2011 Couture

I'm in the midst of completing French and textile science assignments, but I just found these pictures during a quick study break. I can't offer a review of the collection right now but WOW. I thought it would be difficult for Riccardo Tisci to live up to expectations after his exquisite fall 2010 couture collection, but I obviously should have never doubted him.

Christian Dior Spring 2011 Couture

Couture collections are generally where John Galliano shines his brightest, and Dior's spring 2011 show was certainly no exception. The clothes were inspired by Rene Gruau, a fashion illustrator for Christian Dior in the 1940s and '50s. The reflection of this era was most evident in the silhouettes, which were often "New Look," with cinched waists and hemlines falling directly below the knee. While I found this collection to be a little less obvious in its theme than some of my recent favorite Dior moments (flowers or underthings, anyone?), it was one of the most technically stunning that I've ever seen. An overlay of seven swaths of tulle was used on many of the pieces to create a watercolor effect similar to the works of Gruau. Marabou also made a strong appearance, further adding to the drama and the opulence of the show. I can only imagine that seeing the way these creations floated down the runway in real life was beyond spectacular. Mr. Galliano has once again proved his place as one of the greatest couturiers of the twenty-first century.

Prada Spring 2011 RTW

After watching the Prada's Spring 2011 commercial that Jax posted yesterday, I can't get enough of this look. I liked it enough on the runway, but thought it looked a little boxy. Seeing it move, however, is a different story.

Kind of an awkward screenshot, but you get the picture

The look is perfect from head to toe. The fact that the dress is super low cut could come across as either far too elegant or slutty, but since the hem is at the knees and the dress is so loose-fitted, it doesn't even delve into those territories. Paired with the similarly-striped sombrero(!) and those stacked shoes, there's no way this look couldn't grab my attention. It screams fun in very ridiculous, yet put together, way.

Can we talk about Kate Bosworth's outfit here? Her Chloe dress with the leather bodice is great, but what really stole the show were her Isabel Marant pumps. I love pointy toes lately, and these are a perfect example of the style done right. Even in the second photo displaying the cutout back, my eyes went immediately to her feet.

I've also never been one for really "perfume-y" scents, so the collection is perfect for me. I've smelled all of them, just out of curiosity (thanks, Neiman's sample counter), and Tobacco Vanille was by far one of my favorites. It's described as including notes of tobacco leaf, tonka bean, vanilla, cocoa, a fruit accord, and sweet wood sap. Whatever's in there, it's amazing. However, my practical side just can't allow me to splurge on the scent. Recently, though, I discovered Dead Sexy by Tokyo Milk, and it's definitely the next best thing. The perfume also has a strong vanilla base, and includes ebony, exotic wood, and white orchid, but is more dry than Mr. Ford's version. I think, anyways. I'm not exactly a perfume expert. At any rate, while both are good, at a tenth of the price, Tokyo Milk's scent is the one that I'm backing.

Dries Van Noten Fall 2011 Menswear

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I'm usually not one for mens fashion. I can appreciate it, but don't generally don't get too excited about any of the collections. One exception, however, was Dries Van Noten's spring 2011 menswear show, which I couldn't stop obsessing over this past fall. So I decided to give the label another go for fall menswear, and Mr. Van Noten did not fail to impress. He was quoted as saying that he wanted the clothes to be, "glamorous, but not feminine," and were apparently influenced by David Bowie as the Thin White Duke. The best aspects by far, I think, were the chunky, heathered knits and the fur lapels.

Leggings: The Beginning of an Addiction

I'd kept it a secret for a while now, but despite my strong-willed distaste for leggings as pants in the past, I've given in. I've crossed over to the dark side. That said, if I'm going to wear leggings as pants, I'm going to do it right. I'll only wear leggings with dresses or tunics that cover my "bathing suit parts" (sorry for my 4th-grader-at-summer-camp language). And none of that transparent $5.00 Forever 21 crap. Since I've embraced this new found love I've been essentially living in my old pair of black Under Armour athletic leggings. They're thick enough to be worn in the unusually frigid Southern winter weather. They're also thick enough to be completely opaque, even when stretched thin. One thing they aren't, however, is matte. They've got a very sportsy sheen to them, which is nice, but I'm really on the hunt for a pair of nice matte leggings at this point, and I'm ready to lay down the cash for them. I've done my fair share of research and so far my favorite semi-reasonably priced pairs are the following:

Left: Matte Black Leggings - Black Milk - $40

Right: Wunder Under Pant - Lululemon Athletica - $78

Both sets of leggings have pretty good reviews, but I've found more rave reviews on the Lululemon pair, which are designed for everything from yoga to the gym to real life (because exercise is not real). They're kind of costly, but about as costly as an averagely priced pair of jeans. Lululemon recently restocked their leggings in my size, so I think I'm going to go for it.

Of course, I could always just skip black matte and go with these Galaxy leggings from Black Milk:

It's just a thought. I do, after all, need something to wear to Lady Gaga in Nashville come April.

MOMG MObama Wore McQueen!

We don't usually bring up the first lady's style on Les Deux. Mostly because it is generally great and needs no discussion. I personally loved this Alexander McQueen resort 2011 look that Michelle Obama wore to the state dinner for Chinese president Hu Jintao. However, it seems to have caused quite a stir with fashion critics and designers alike, each of whom has their own analysis of the look. Cathy Horyn of the Times and Robin Givhan of The Daily Beast both seemed to view it favorably. Givhan went so far as to say that she thought it was, "a broad statement about the new realities of the fashion industry," and went on to describe in great detail exactly what the dress was communicating. Oscar de la Renta, however, was not so pleased with the outfit. As the dinner was about promoting trade between American and Chinese industries, ODLR found it in poor taste that the first lady chose to wear a European brand.

I find all of their in-depth reviews somewhat humorous, though. Does everyone really think that every outfit Michelle Obama wears has to be a political statement? I mean sure, when I saw that she wore red, I thought that could be a nod to China, but I didn't think much past that. I might be totally wrong, but I just assume that when the first lady is wearing a great dress such as this, it's because her stylist brought it to her and she thought that it looked nice. Or maybe I'm just too shallow to comprehend the intricacies of dressing politicians' wives.

Age-Inappropriate

When people made a fuss over this beauty spread in the January edition of French Vogue, edited by Tom Ford, I didn't really see why there was a problem. The only picture printed with the stories that I read was the one with the perfume bottle (fifth shown). And I thought, sure, they're overly made-up, but it's all been seen before (Toddlers in Tiaras, anyone?). However, upon viewing the entire editorial today, I was somewhat disturbed. Whether intentional or not, it's hard to ignore the sexual connotations that come from posing on a bed, or animal fur, or even with high heels. Not to mention, this is French Vogue that we're talking about here, a magazine notorious for revolving around sexuality throughout editor-in-chief Carine Roitfeld's reign. These images don't inherently imply sexual themes, but unfortunately, when placed in this context, I'm afraid that they seem to. I don't mean for this to sound closed minded, but in this case I'm siding with Franca Sozzani. So many fashion editorials today resort to vulgarity just for the sake of shock value. To quote Sozzani from her blog, "Without a strong idea exasperating an image is just self-satisfaction." In addition, it's just not fair that six year-olds get to wear Tom Ford's amazing lipstick when I can't afford to buy a single tube for myself.

Product Review: Kiehl's Ultra Facial Starter Kit

I do not buy expensive products because they're made by a trendy company; I pride myself on finding great deals at the Gap and saving money by shopping for groceries with my Kroger Plus card. However, in instances where I believe that a higher price actually reflects the quality of the good, I have no problem shelling out. Such is the case with nice leather bags, with DiorShow Mascara, and now, with Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream Starter Kit.

I wasn't overly thrilled with the cleanser. Not that's there's anything wrong with it, but there's probably not much anyone can do to improve upon the face wash formula that's already been perfected by many companies. However, the toner and cream blew me away. I'm not sure whether it's because I've never used toner, or that the products just work that well, but my skin has never felt so rejuvenated and healthy. In fact, as I sit here, almost twelve hours and one shower later, I still feel incredibly moisturized. It's like there's a glowing barrier between my skin and the elements surrounding me, and I love it.

A small amount of each product goes a very long way, so I'm hoping that this kit lasts me a while. If you're looking for a new skin care routine, I would definitely recommend this package to anyone out there. Although I said I wasn't floored by the cleanser, I'm going to say to go ahead and buy the kit. The price of a small Ultra Facial Cream alone is actually equal to its price (which includes said cream), so it's definitely worth it.

Golden Globes Red Carpet 2011

I'm a shameless sucker for celebrity-watching at awards shows. Not only is it kind of thrilling to see the biggest of stars interacting like normal people, but there's also the obvious appeal of who's wearing whom. While I wasn't completely happy with the results of the show (Black Swan should have won Best Picture and 30 Rock & its actors should have won everything), I was particularly pleased by the wardrobe choices this year. Below are some of my favorite looks:

Emma Stone in custom Calvin Klein

Stone really went out on a limb with this one. The dress is pretty similar to her skin color and her skin color is pretty similar to her new platinum locks. I was thinking that mainstream fashion critics like Yahoo! would surely berate her for this monochromatic look, but they, like me, loved it. Stone's facial features and body are striking enough to carry this look with ease and make it seem super sexy. Plus, the peachy tone of the dress combined with her sleek makeup accentuated her blue eyes to perfection.

Mila Kunis in custom Vera Wang

I always admire people who have the balls to wear jewel-toned green on the red carpet. Not only is it a pretty difficult color to pull off, but it always seems very reminiscent of Christmas to me. Mila Kunis, however, rocked this emerald hued gown like it was a piece of cake. The draped crinkle silk fabric looked like it was just flowing off of her body, which has clearly recovered from her 20-pound weight loss for her role in Black Swan. Not only was her dress fantastic, her skin was completely flawless thanks to a $7,000 diamond and ruby facial she reportedly received prior to the award show. No wonder she looked so flawless.

Robert Downey Jr. in Prada

I love this guy. His look is a little crazy, yes, but so is he! His sort of eccentric personality really showed through with the pops of red. And, despite what others may think, the hair and scruff really didn't take away from the put-togetherness of the suit; in fact, I think they kind of made the look.

Claire Danes in custom Calvin Klein

No matter what shade you call it, this highlighter/bubblegum/Barbie pink halter gown worked perfectly on Danes. I love that she chose such a daring hue with this very minimal dress. Anything less than shocking pink would have been cast aside as drab. Kudos to Claire for going all out and still hitting the nail right on the head.

Hailee Steinfeld in Prabal Gurung

I still cannot get over the fact that this True Grit star is only 14 years old. In every red carpet picture I've seen of her she looks closer to my age than middle school. Regardless of age, her look was stunning and super youthful. The racerback fit of the dress paired with her pulled back hair and simple makeup made this look very age appropriate - a refreshing change from the "less is more" mentality that so many young starlets seem to have. Hopefully we'll be seeing much more from her, because her red carpet style is inspiring.

Lea Michele in Oscar de la Renta

This muted pink gown and loose wavy updo are perfect for Michele. Because of her (stupid) show, Glee, she's become America's sweetheart. The asymmetrical top, the ruffles that run down the body, and the simple makeup and jewelry make this the perfect girl next door look for the perfect girl next door.

Natalie Portman in Viktor & Rolf Couture

I'm still not entirely sure how I feel about this dress, mostly just because I'm a little biased by my newfound love for Natalie Portman. I don't know about the rest of the world, but I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what Portman would be wearing to the Globes (and whether or not we'd see some of that second trimester bump). While I'm not insanely crazy about the rose appliqué, I think that the red/pink hued look wouldn't be complete without it. I love the Grecian draping that cascades over her baby bump, drawing attention to the fact that she's a mom-to-be. Dressing for pregnancy can be hard, but Portman does it here in a really classic and classy way.

Robert Pattinson in custom Gucci

No, I'm not a Twilight fan nor have I fallen head over heels for Pattinson like too many other American teens have; but you've got to admit it, the man looked classy as hell at the Globes. I mean, look at those lapels. He looked quite the gentleman.

Sandra Bullock in Jenny Packham

I'm going to start off on the negative side (pessimist for life) by saying that I cannot stand Bullock's hair with this gown. It completely suffocates the dress. If Sandra wanted bangs, fine, but she should have at least pulled her hair off of her shoulders so that she could have shown off her dress' embellishments. Now onto the good: that dress. I feel dumb for not having heard of Jenny Packham before the Globes, but thanks to Bullock I'm now becoming familiar with this great designer. This beautiful gown is only one of her many intricate, red-carpet-worthy dresses. It's got a lot of elements to it (one shoulder, tulle poking out, beaded all over, draping down the bottom), but it doesn't look tacky at all, nor does it look overly ritzy. Gorgeous gown. Wish I could say the same for Bullock's hair...

Leighton Meester in Burberry Prorsum

Meester looks super classic and demure in this look from Burberry Pre-Fall. I'm used to seeing the starlets of Gossip Girl wearing a uniform of super-revealing dresses, so it's quite novel to see Leighton in such a modest look (she even had longer sleeves added to the original look). Maybe she her change of style was influenced by her role in Country Strong, but hopefully this mature, subdued style is going to show up again on Meester.

Olivia Wilde in Marchesa

Stunning, stunning, stunning. There are no other words for this fantastic, sparkly Marchesa gown. Like with Sandra Bullock, I think that Wilde should have put more focus onto the dress by pulling her hair back (especially since she has bangs), but let's get real - nothing can compete with this dress.

Haven: Sanctuary of Style

Let's face it: Nashville, Tennessee, is not exactly the fashion capital of the world. If you're looking for a pair of cowboy boots or a Western-style shirt in Katie's and my hometown, then you're set. But as far as unique apparel stores are concerned, the options are few and far between. That's why every time Katie or I find an interesting new retail location, it's so exciting for us. One of our most recent finds is Haven in historic downtown Franklin (about twenty-five minutes south of Nashville).

One of the reasons that we love shopping there is the way that the store is set up. The two-story location boasts some of the best visual merchandising I've ever seen. Every time you turn around there's a different space offering something new and fantastic. Haven offers brands such as Current/Elliot, Elizabeth and James, Jill Stuart, Gary Graham, Jeffrey Campbell, and Nicholas K, which are some of my personal favorites. They also sell accessories, and a small assortment of home goods.

I really can't say enough good things about the city of Franklin (it's the actual city that Katie and I grew up in; we usually just say Nashville since not many people have heard of Franklin). If you're in middle Tennessee, you have to make time to visit the quaint little town, and if you do, stopping by Haven is a must.

Celine Pre-Fall 2011

I don't really feel like reviewing the collection, but here are some of what I thought to be the most notable looks from Celine's Pre-Fall collection. While I wasn't as in love with it as I have been with other Celine collections, I do think it was a really nice updated take on basic style elements (like denim, sweaters, etc.). Style.com's Nicole Phelps said that the jackets in this collection were "essential to the urban warrior's uniform," but I think the entire collection is. I imagine that Fashion Week attendees will be sporting Celine's pre-fallwear in street style photos for months to come.

Skulls and Antlers in Cast Resin

I'm not one for hunting or animal cruelty in the least, but I'm really loving the rustic vibes from these faux antlers and skulls. I feel like even though they're definitely statement pieces, they can work in many different types of interiors. On the one hand they remind me of this editorial that Katie posted a while back, but on the other, they would also really fit in with the desert vibes in Erin Wasson's room.
